What is the Northern Gothic Collective Night Market?
The Northern Gothic Collective’s Night Market at the Castle Keep is a unique event showcasing a variety of North-East artists, antique sellers, artisans, craft makers, gothic furniture makers, luxury food vendors, tarot readings, and much more!
Our Ist Halloween Market promises a unique experience like no other! We take immense pride in curating an eclectic array of vendors, from gothic decor to occult treasures.
When and where is the event taking place?
The market will be held on Saturday, October 26th 2024, the Saturday before Halloween, at the Newcastle Castle Keep, from 6pm-10pm.
Is there an admission fee?
The market is free entry. All persons under the age of 16 will need to be accompanied by a guardian.
Accessibility
The Castle Keep has many steep stairs and uneven surfaces.
Dogs, with the exception of guide dogs, are not permitted entry.
Buggies can be parked in a designated area – please ask a member of staff.
Wheelchair users:
The Castle Keep is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with several upper storeys which are not accessible to disabled visitors. Our event will take place on the ground floor, however only one room is wheelchair accessible, The Gaol. The second room we will be using, The Chapel, is not accessible by wheelchair.
What kind of items will be for sale?
Expect to find a wide range of gothic, alternative, and handmade items, including home decor, artwork, ethical taxidermy, candles, tarot readings, sweet treats, burgers, and more.
Next day delivery for items purchased at the market
Rigore Morti is offering Next Day Delivery for items purchased at the Market, starting from as little as £5 for local delivery (prices may vary depending on location).
Will there be food and drink vendors?
Yes, there will be food and drink vendors on site offering a variety of options to suit different tastes.
Will there be entertainment?
Concomitantly to our event, The Castle Keep will be showing 2 classic spooky films upstairs, in the atmospheric Great Hall: the classic vampire film, Nosferatu (1922) from 6:30PM and the classic horror, Dracula (1958) from 9PM.
IMPORTANT: this is a ticketed event organised by the Castle Keep (not the Northern Gothic Collective).
Cost: £13 Doors open: 6:30PM
Film Starts: 7PM and 9PM
The films will take place in the Great Hall of the Castle Keep. Unfortunately, this venue has no disabled access due to the historic nature of the building. Doors will open at approximately 6.30pm, with the first film starting at 7pm. The Castle Keep cannot guarantee entry after the film has started to avoid disruption. Please note: It can get very cold in the Castle Keep, so please dress in warm clothes!
How to find us
Newcastle Castle is a prominent landmark in the city. It’s easy to find on foot, by public transport, or by car. The Castle’s postcode is postcode is NE1 1RQ.
Travelling by Car
Newcastle City Centre can be reached via the A1 (M), which links the area to Scotland and the south. If travelling west from Carlisle or the Lake District, take the A69, or the M6 from the south and west of England.

Some limited on-street parking is available outside The Vermont Hotel, adjacent to the Castle Keep. The nearest major public car park can be found on Dean Street. Walk out of the car park, cross straight over Dean Street and almost directly in front of you is a small stairway that brings you up into Amen Corner, to the east side of the Castle. There are numerous other parking facilities, including multi-storey facilities and 48 surface car parks operated by Newcastle City Council.
The Quayside’s multi-storey car park is approximately 12 minutes’ walk away and can hold up to 500 vehicles. For a full guide to parking in Newcastle, visit Newcastle City Council’s website.
By Bus / Metro
Tyne and Wear Metro:
The Nexus operated Metro service operates into Newcastle city centre – with several stations in close proximity to Newcastle Castle. The nearest stations are Monument Station (at the top of the Grade I-listed Grey Street) and Central Station, both less than ten minutes’ walk away. If travelling from the Airport via Regent Centre, you will have to alight at Haymarket and change platforms. For more advice planning your journey, visit the Nexus website.
Bus Services:
The Q1 QuayLink bus service runs to the bottom of the Side, the medieval Quayside street which leads up to the Castle. Public buses run outside of the Black Gate into Gateshead and towards Durham and Chester-le-Street once every 15 minutes (weekdays and Saturdays). Is there parking available?
Paid parking options are available all around the castle keep, however, in the City Centre it is usually free to park after 7PM. The Castle is easily reachable by public transport.
